Fitness Journey: P90X End of Week 2

Woohoo!!! Made it to the end of week 2!! Man this week was awesome, it just flew by, guess time really does fly by when your having fun! Took some time these last 2 weeks to focus more on my diet and get one set up good. I decided to start doing a 2700 cal per day, 40% carbs 30% protein and 30% fat. I'll be eating 6 times a day with 2 of my meals being whey protein shakes. Seems to be working good considering when I weighed my self  on my start day I weighed 200 Lbs, now as of today I weigh 192 Lbs, thats a total of 8 Lbs gone for good!!

I'm kicking myself in the butt right now for not taking my body measurements on day one, but I did take them today. I plan on taking them every two weeks to see my progress and make adjustments to my diet as I go.

Body Measurements as of April 14th 2010
Begining of Week 3

Height: 6ft 1in   Weight: 192    BodyFat%: 27%    Waist: 38.5  Hips: 38.5
Arms: 15 Both   Chest: 41    Thighs: 23.5 Both

Last Years Body Measurement Before my unfit experiment 7-26-09

Height: 6ft 1in    Weight: 187    BodyFat%: 22%    Waist: 37    Hips: 35
Arms: 15.5    Chest: 41.5    Thighs: 24

As you can see with my measurement I lost alot of muscle and gained alot of fat since last year with my unfit experiment. This is why I'm kicking myself in the butt for not taking my measurements in the begining, because two week ago I weighed 200 Lbs. I can just imagine what my measurements were then. So alittle advice take your measurement when you first start, if you've already started then stop what your doing now and take them. You will be able to track your progress a whole lot better in the end.

I still took things a little easy in week 2 and already kicked the intensity up today for week 3. I plan on turning up the heat each week till I can keep up with Tony and the gang. Ended week 2 with Kenpo and I tell ya what I was so pumped up all way through, man it was awesome I flew through it like it was nothing! My cardio has improved tremendously over the last 2 weeks. In week one the warm ups were killing me and now there just a thing! Everything just keeps getting easier as you progress in the workouts, keep pacing yourself and raising the intensity level bit by bit. Keep moving forward and keep pressing play !

Healthy Recipe: No Ground Beef In My Beef Stroganoff

By: Lindsey Hughes

This is a great main dish that the whole family will love. Even my picky 4 year old gave it a thumbs up! A few of the ingredients have been changed from the classic stroganoff recipe to make this into healthier version of it, and it's GREAT. One thing that has changed is the use of fat free plain yogurt instead of sour cream. You can use this as a replacement in almost anything that calls for sour cream, you can't tell the difference! I used Oikos fat free plain Greek yogurt myself. I also used whole grain noodles, free of egg yolk. This recipe also replaces canned mushroom soup with instant onion-mushroom soup mix. These changes took the normal fat content of 34g down to only 9g, the cholesterol from 112mg down to 69, and it also cut the calories in half! Enjoy! Credits for the recipe goes to Evelyn Tribole, in her book Healthy Homestyle Cooking.
Per serving:

Calories: 398

Fat: 9g

Calories from fat: 20%

Cholesterol: 69mg

Ingredients:

Sauce:

1 cup evaporated skim milk

1 tbs cornstarch

1 envelope instant onion-mushroom soup/ dip mix
Beef mixture:

12 oz beef sirloin steak, trimmed of all visible fat and cut into thin bite size strips

1/2 medium onion, sliced and separated into rings

1 clove garlic, minced

1 1/2 cups sliced fresh mushrooms

1 (8oz) container fat free plain yogurt

2 cups hot cooked noodles

To make the sauce:

In a medium saucepan, use a wire whisk to stir together the milk and cornstarch until smooth. Then stir in the soup mix. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Remove from the heat and cover to keep warm.
To make the beef mixture:

Lightly spray an unheated large skillet with non stick spray. Add the beef, onions and garlic. Cook and stir over medium- high heat for 2 minutes. Add the mushrooms. Cook and stir about 1 minute more, or until mushrooms and onions are tender. Reduce heat to low.

Stir the sauce mixture into the beef mixture. Then stir in the yogurt. Cook and stir just until heated through ( do not overheat because the yogurt will curdle). Serve over hot noodles.

Makes 4 servings, serve with your favorite sides and enjoy.

Fitness Tip: Keep Motivated And Pay It Forward !

Whats your motivation? No matter what your goals are in your fitness journey, everyone needs some motivation. Lets face it setting goals are easy, but if you lose your motivation your doomed to failure. The key to success in your fitness journey is to keep your most motivating thoughts in the front of your mind. Keep in mind what motivates you the most, visualize the body you want, how does it make you feel to be in the best shape ever, imagine what your friends and family are saying about the new you.

Here are 3 tips to get that ol motivational train going:

1.Visualize and See the Body You Want:
Find a picture of someone who has the body you want. This can be in your favorite fitness magazine or you can do an image search online. Keep it real in other words , pick a picture of someone who matches who you are.Example: Same hair color, same eye color, as tall as you, and so on. You want to be able to trick your mind into thiking hey this me. Hang this picture up some place that you will see it everyday and look at it as if it was really you.

2.Hold Yourself Accountable:
Social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter , and MySpace are another great way to keep you motivaed with your fitness program. You can tell all your friends and family about your new fitness program and keep them updated with your progress. You Tube is another awesome way to get motivated and share your progress with others, I highly suggest you get a video camera and upload your progress. Using social media sites are a great way to keep yourself accountable to others which in return will motivate you to continue your fitness program.

3. Find support:
Finding support is one of the best ways to keep yourself motivated. If your married, have that special someone, or even a few friends, get them involved with your fitness program. My wife is the best support I have found with my workouts. Another way to get support is through your social media sites by joining fitness groups, or you can even join an online fitness club. The benifits of online fitness clubs are awesome , not only can you get support from thousands of people, you can keep track of your body stats and goals as well.

There are dozens of different ways one can motivate themselves, I just wanted to throw these 3 tips at you. I feel these 3 tips are of the more important ways to motivate yourself and by using them you will be able to keep yourself motivated and hit your own personal fitness goals. It is my hopes that they will be as useful to you as they are to me.

Pay It Forward for Fitness!
Another idea I would like to share is another way I am currently motivating myself. I get extremely motivaed by motivating others. So what I love to do is find people on You Tube and Facebook who have started the same workout program as myself (P90x), and subscribe, comment and add them to my friends list. This way I can watch and comment on their progress. In doing this it shows them that somebody out there cares about thier success! I also share and invite others to do the same. For P90xers just goto You Tube and type in "P90x Progress".You can never have enough supporters cheering you on!

If this is something that you would like to do then lets start paying it forward for fitness!
